It was just another long, and VERY boring day. The lunch bell rang. My gripe is that it's the same thing every single day with the possible exception of the two year construction project. The sounds of the jack hammer and heavy equipment drowning out my American history teacher’s voice in block five livened things up a bit.
Since I never took my notebook and stuff
out of my backpack, I had nothing to pack. I just picked up my bag and headed
for the cafe.
I'm just your average high school
junior with wavy brown hair and brown eyes. But if you look really close, I
swear there is some green in my eyes too -- it's kind of cool. I believe that
day I was wearing my "Every Day I'm Shufflin" shirt with some plaid
shorts.
At this point I had just about enough
with my boring life. I wanted something more than this, that's all. I walked
into the cafe, the only place in the school I was allowed to use my iPhone. I
shoved my earphones into my ears. I went over and slid onto the bench where my
friends were sitting.
I was blasting music like always when I took
out my headphones and said,
"Aren't you guys bored with all
this, the same thing ever day?" My friend sitting across from me, Jack,
said.
"What do you mean?" That's
when I got mad. "What do you mean what do I
mean!?!" I said.
"It's the same thing every day.
It's so boring!" I sighed loudly and slammed my head on the table.
"Look Troy," Jack started. Oh hear we go, I thought. "We're
just kids, it's not like there's much for us to do around this part of our
lives." I didn't pick up my head.
"Whatever..." I mumbled.
After a while I stood up, "I'm going for a walk." I said.
My other friend, Alex, said, "Whatever
man, just be on time for next class. You know Mr.Wicks is already on your case
about being late."
"Ya, ya, I don't scare
easy," I replied, heading for the back stairwell. Just as I put my foot on
the first step, that's when I heard something out of the ordinary, something
that made me uncomfortable, even in my own skin.
"Troy...this way..." said a
voice that sounded a hundred years old. I looked around and there was I didn’t
see anybody.
"Huh...who's there?" I
asked in a shaky voice. I walked behind the staircase toward the voice. Then I
saw it.
"That's weird. Did the
construction workers leave a hole in the wall back here?"
"In here," said the voice.
I should have walked away, but this was the first interesting thing to happen
in FOREVER.
"H-h-hello?" I said weakly.
As I inched closer, I was able to see
what was inside. Nothing out of the ordinary, just some rusted pipes, old
boards and even a dead mouse.
I said, "A mouse huh, at this
school, that's a rat."
I stuck my head in the hole. Who's calling me back here? No
one can fit in this hole. Not even Alex could get back here.
Out of nowhere, someone clamped their
massive hand around my jaw and temples.
"Gotcha," said the voice,
very calmly. I screamed as it pulled me into the hole. Into the dark abyss.
